Joyce Liang (she/her)
Treasurer
Hello, my name is Joyce Liang. I’m currently a full-time student and an active volunteer both online and in the community. I enjoy playing the guitar, cooking and listening to music in my free time.
During the fall of 2019, I was helping to organize a food drive with the youth club at a senior’s association. I heard that by the end of the summer, some food banks had shelves that were completely empty, despite the ongoing and increasing need. I have also helped out with seasonal food drives for a couple of years before joining RSFDF. In the spring and the fall, I did door-to-door canvassing to collect food that goes to local food banks.
Poverty can impact our population for the long-term. It affects one’s physical and mental health and living situation, hinders their ability to contribute positively to society, and is often passed on throughout generations. Sometimes, see advertisements on public transit that communicate these long-term effects. Many people rely on supports like food banks because of poverty.
I feel that being hungry is truly heartbreaking as food is a basic need, a basic human right, and ultimately, necessary for survival. This cause is important to me personally, and I know that RSFDF has a crucial role in alleviating its impact.
